Katie & Kyle | Portraits05.11.12

Have I mentioned how awesome my second shooter is? Because really, Emily is pretty great. We needed to practice with a real couple (no more of my awkward modeling for her!) and she coerced her adorable sister and sister’s boyfriend into being our subjects for a shoot. And now these are some of my favorite pictures ever. Thank you, Katie and Kyle!

We only had about half an hour or so in Peninsula before it started sprinkling but it was super easy to photograph these two because, well, see below. While I was getting the picture on the left, Emily was getting the picture on the right.

Amanda & Nathan | Maternity05.02.12

Ohhhh baby (no pun intended!) was I nervous for this shoot. Amanda and Nathan are photographers in Northeast Ohio, which means that they would UNDERSTAND what I was or was not doing during the shoot. We met for coffee beforehand and, lucky for me, I realized quickly that these two are totally laid back and sweet as can be. They’re expecting their first baby ANY day now, and I know they’re going to be awesome parents.

I’m so honored to have photographed you, Amanda and Nathan! THANK YOU for trusting me with your maternity photos.

Cleveland Portrait Photographer Cleveland Portrait Photographer You two are so stinkin’ adorable!

Baby Lane | Newborn04.30.12

Is there anything sweeter than this little guy?? Really, anything?

I was SO lucky to be asked to photograph baby Lane at just six days old. SIX! Small world: His parents, Kirsten and Mike, are from Cincinnati, and Kirsten and I had the same makeup artist at our weddings (hi, Nancy)! If that, plus their sweet personalities, didn’t make me like them, the fact that they named their little baby boy “Lane” sealed the deal!

This sweet guy hardly fussed the entire session. I think he knew he was modeling … and he did sooo good! Enjoy my favorites, and then click on the slideshow link at the bottom to see more favorites! :)

Zach & Travis | Oxford, OH Senior Portraits04.20.12

Hi, all! I know I’ve been slacking a little the last couple weeks, and I’m sorry for that. I hope to be back to my normal three-posts-a-week schedule next week. And I have a VERY fun post to start next week. :)

Today, I want to share a sneak peek of a senior session that I just recently did. Zach is my co-worker’s son, and he was nice enough to hold out on his senior pictures until I came to town. No really. He told his mom that he didn’t want anyone else to take his photos. How sweet is that?! Travis is his best friend and was polite enough to laugh at my dumb jokes. :) All in all, a great session. Congratulations on your graduation, guys!

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Portraits: Sharon and Rob03.30.12

We sat at dinner and contemplated dessert. If I haven’t mentioned it before, Nathan has a reallllly big sweet tooth … and I’m not too far behind him! Generally, we always want dessert. And as soon as we mentioned it, Sharon and Rob were in. But instead of ordering dessert at the restaurant we were at, we ventured across the way to a different, more-delicious-dessert restaurant.

Most people would think Nathan and I are crazy for our very particular and slightly snobby dessert taste, but not Sharon and Rob. They get us. And it’s why they’re two of our closest friends.

These two agreed to let Nathan and me shoot them for a little pre-wedding-season practice (yes, Nathan will be shooting with me at a couple wedding this year!). Sharon and I have been friends since we were 12, and Rob is a fabulous addition to the group. He makes Sharon laugh, and she makes him oh! so happy! They get each other.

Meet Emily03.21.12

I’m so excited to introduce you to my lovely second shooter Emily. She is sweet and joyful and has a great artistic eye. Emily will be accompanying me to lots of weddings this year, and I know you all will love her!

And with that, I’ll let her tell you a little more about herself …

Cleveland Photographer

1) Tell us a little about yourself.

I was raised in a military family, so I spent my childhood here and there. (I even lived in England for 4 years!  Unfortunately, I was young, so I only remember the important things like the park and our house … not all the great castles I saw from my stroller. Alas.) I spent a majority of the “growing up years” in North Dakota though, and I loved it.  If people knew how absolutely beautiful the land is (and they could survive the winters) everyone would move to North Dakota. ;)

I went to Kent State and majored in Middle Childhood Education. I’m not using every facet of that major in my current job for a marketing company, but that’s OK. I’m still figuring it all out.

I have a lovely set of parents, one sister and one brother. My family holds a crucial place in my life. They warm my heart, make me laugh, and support my every dream.

I am recently engaged and getting married to a brilliant guy named Keith Schmader on June 23rd! (Look out for a name change: Emily Schmader. I’m not having too much trouble getting used to it!)

2) When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

30 minutes is the perfect amount of time to simultaneously eat a bag of 100-calorie popcorn, read a few of my favorite blogs, and watch an episode of The Office on DVD: the ideal half hour.

3) If you had an extra $1,000 that you could use any way you wanted, how would you use it?

(Let’s disregard the realities of wedding/marriage expenses and pretend for a second that I wouldn’t be practical.) With an extra $1,000 I would probably hit up an antique mall and outfit my entire house with a plethora of great antique finds. I would also buy a couple new pairs of glasses. I love glasses and I’m always wearing a pair. One for every mood, you know? (I actually just fell in love with some Ralph Lauren’s…but they were pricey! Shoot.)

4) What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

I have a very strange reaction to the “hungry human.” For whatever reason, when I see someone who is clearly hungry and eating to satisfy that need, it makes me cry. I feel this surge of emotion because I can relate to the feeling. We all know that horrible, worn out feeling of being hungry. It’s a basic need of every human. People are vulnerable and unmasked when hungry. I’ll often tear up, and if you catch me at the right moment, I may even have a really good cry. My family and friends have adjusted to this reaction.

5) What inspires you most about photography?

There’s a “hazy dreamer” inside me that feeds off of beauty, art and life. Photography has proven to be one of the best ways to fuel that little dreamer. It captures a short moment in time. One records that brief moment in the likes of a picture, and it lives on as long as the picture does. I enjoy finding those moments through the lens. And I LOVE seeing the fragments of time that others have caught.

Cincinnati Portraits: Nicole & Kelby07.23.11

Oh man. Where do I even start with these two? Nicole and Kelby (or Cole and Kelb as I like to call them :) ) are two of my best friends and they just so happen to be a perfect couple. We all went to Miami U and moved to Cincinnati after college, so lucky for me, I get to see them a lot! Cole and I lived together at Miami, traveled to Luxembourg to study abroad and are both from Northeast Ohio, so needless to say, we have some awesome memories (And some pretty ridiculous memories. You’d probably think Cole and I were nuts if you were observing us in a coffee shop. We have a unique sense of humor :D )!

One of my most favorite stories that I tell almost anyone I meet is that … wait for it … I’m the emergency contact for Cole and Kelb’s cat, Bella. Yes, you read that right. I’m the person the vet calls when Cole and Kelb are out of town and Bella needs emergency attention. Didn’t know there was such a thing for a cat? Me either until they asked if I would be willing to be listed. It’s pretty much like being Bella’s godmother. Don’t mess with me. :)

Cole and Kelb, you two are seriously awesome. THANK YOU for hanging out with me for the evening. Please tell Bella that her emergency contact misses her.

I’m trying a new thing–video slideshows! You know I love music, and I especially think photos are powerful with music. Let me know what you think of this slideshow that shows extended pictures from Cole and Kelb’s session. It might just be something I continue on. :)
