When we bought our house last December, we decided to take the decorating slow. We were only going to work on one room at a time and not move on to another room until that first one was done. We decided this mostly to save money and avoid getting overwhelmed with simultaneous projects. Even though I’ve been reallllly impatient with this first room and I’m realizing we’ll be about 42 by the time we’re done, I know that was the right decision. You definitely savor your hard work if you pour all of your effort into one space!
So, a little background on our house: It’s a 1940s Colonial and it was totally flipped before we bought it. The best part though? The flippers (haha!) kept all of the original floors and woodwork, which makes the place seem new, but charmingly old at the same time. Just what we were going for!
Without further ado, here’s our FINISHED master bedroom! (And P.S., I will be bragging about my husband throughout this post because he’s amazing and created a lot of stuff you’ll see. I am NOT handy. He is!)
The before:
The while-we-were-moving-in:
Notice the mud all over the floors. Nathan was redoing the closets at this point. It was a MESS!
The after!
Our duvet is from Pottery Barn and a lot of the pillows and prints are from Etsy (of course!
).
I think my favorite things in the room are our lamp shades from Anthropologie. Nathan earns points for going along with them.
I totally took that idea on the right from Pinterest!

Nathan calls this the “Lane area” because my mirror is so low, I’m the only one who can see in it. Oh for the love of being short!

So, Nathan MADE that mirror. I got the idea from this blog, but knew I could never attempt to put something like that together. Of course Nathan has mad skills and now we have the mirror I wanted. Ridiculously talented I tell you!

That blue vase and the red picture frame below are from Pier 1.

Recognize that wreath? I did a DIY 101 post on it here.

I also did a DIY 101 post on those yarn letters.
Our blue closets! Nathan ripped out the old, gross closets and rebuilt all four of them! We painted them blue and then Nathan put in new lights.
And the window seat! Again, bragging on Nathan. He BUILT this thing! Doesn’t it look like part of the house? I love window seats, and now I can read on this one.

This room is divine! I don’t even know where to begin, I love it all so. That mirror. The window seat. It all came together and the result is pure charm. Great work.
Awww, thanks, Kimberly! So great seeing you yesterday!
Hi Lane,
I love your ideas and can’t wait to take part in them for our wedding photos and engagement photos and more! You are so creative, I would have thought something similar to these but I wouldn’t be able to put them together. Great Master Bedroom!
Very beautiful! Great taste. Can you come and do my house now! Love it!
you guys make a great team. My husband use to help me do stuff in the begining….now its like pulling teeth to get him to do projects with me. I’m working on my living room, new rug, new colors to work with. I need a new couch bad!!! The one I have is 15 years old and now it doesn’t work with the new rug…planned that! I want to do some new window treatments, kind of like what you did with the tie back like yours, cool! Glass blue would work perfect in here too. I’m bring a lot of blue into the room, wanted a slat blue in here. Time to pant, time to shop… maybe after the annual report is done!!!
Thanks, ladies!
OMG Lane!!!!! I didn’t know you were so good at interior designing. It’s awesome! you need to come re do my room!!!!!!!!!
