DIY 101: Grapevine Rosette Wreath03.15.12

Ever since we had cute grapevine wreaths at our wedding, I’ve wondered how to put one together. Surprisingly enough, this is the easiest DIY project I’ve done so far. And if I can do it, you can do it! We’re using this wreath in our master bedroom, but wreaths are great details for church doors or reception venues, too!

Create away! :)

DIY 101: Yarn Letters02.22.12

I walked away from this project with super glue on my fingers and a glue gun dripping on the table. Signs of success I always say! I made these yarn letters for our master bedroom closet doors (the first room to be decorated in our house … I’ll share as soon as it’s done), but they would be really cute as wedding decor, too. Beware though, if you have a difficult letter (cough, Nathan, cough), it may take you a lot longer than anticipated!

DIY 101: Pennant-Stamped Favor Bags01.20.12

I decided I wanted to use pennants in my wedding decor at the last minute. Little piece of advice for you: I don’t recommend making last-minute decisions when you’re at your most stressed-out time! It’s not pretty. The great thing about this DIY project is that you can do it well ahead of time, which leads me to my next piece of advice: I do recommend doing as much ahead of time as possible. And, even if you’re not planning a wedding, these favor bags are great for bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties … you get my drift. :)

(Thanks to Just Something I Made for the stamp inspiration.)

Voila! The finished product…

We used these as dessert bags at our wedding. The bags shown above are lined in wax paper so buttery sweets don’t leak.

DIY 101: Hand-Sewn Invitations01.07.12

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you’ve probably picked up that I love DIY and handmade style. I love finding new uses for things and appreciate the personalized touch that comes with DIY projects.

What you probably don’t know is that I’m really bad at DIY projects. What I mean by that is I’m not one of those people who can just bust out my own unique, dreamed-up project from beginning to end. Sure, I can dream up the projects, but actually applying my handy-man skills is another story. Because I’m not handy!

You know what I can do though? Follow instructions. Really well. Once when I was in college I wouldn’t let Nathan (who is VERY handy) help me put my desk together because I wanted to follow the instructions from beginning to end by myself. Yeah I move at a tortoise pace, but the satisfaction I get from creating something myself is worth it in the end.

So, that leads me to my DIY 101 post. My goal here is to consistently bring easy, cute, fun DIY projects to the blog that most definitely include step-by-step instructions so everyone can be involved. Hey, if I can do it, you certainly can too! The first couple installments will be from our wedding, but after that I’ll be starting fresh and creating these things right along with you.

First up is hand-sewn invitations. I loved our recycled wedding invitations and a lot of that was because of its hand-sewn border. I have no idea how to work a sewing machine, but thankfully my sister-in-law Brandi helped me out there. As long as you or someone you know has that knowledge (and for this project I’m assuming you do because I don’t give you a tutorial on working a sewing machine), this project is pretty easy. I will warn you that it does take some hours, but that’s only because you’re doing each invite one by one, not because the project is hard. I highly recommend an assembly line. It’s worth it in the end!

Happy creating! :)

The finished product! We didn’t worry about the back of the cardstock because we knew it would be hidden by another piece of cardstock. Our thread wasn’t too messy on the back though, so if you aren’t going to hide it, it should be fine.
